College football 2019: Best, worst case for every top-25 team

Best case:Texas is, in fact, back. The Longhorns beat LSU in Week 2,vaultingthem into the top five in the AP Top 25. SamEhlingerengineers another victory against Oklahoma, and the defense gets key stops in revenge games against Oklahoma State and West Virginia. The Longhorns have togo through the Sooners twice – and they do, sweeping the two-game series in Jerry World. That sets up a meeting with Ohio State in the Playoff. Texas wins big, and Tom Herman isn’t shy about celebrating.

Worst case:LSU is superior on the offensive and defensive line against the Longhorns, and it shows in a big-game flop. The defense does not improve enough in games against ranked teams. The Longhorns lose to Oklahoma State again, and Oklahoma is happy to knock Texas out of the Big 12 race with a convincing victory in the Red River Showdown. Texas finishes 8-4, watches Texas A&M make the Playoff and faces North Carolina – led by Mack Brown – in a second-tier bowl game.
