The Congress would gain a little over two percentage points in vote share compared to its 2013 tally and the ruling BJP would lose about three percentage points, but would still have a lead of over three percentage points, the poll forecast.
The BSP is predicted to win a mere three seats and others another 10. The survey was conducted between October 25 and November 3. An earlier round done about a month ago had predicted 128 seats for the BJP and 85 for the Congress, which indicates that the fight has got closer, something the Congress will draw heart from with about three weeks to go before polling on November 28. The BJP on the other hand will believe that prime minister Narendra Modi‘s campaigning would actually help it widen the gap in the coming weeks.
Incumbent Shivraj Singh Chouhan remains the top choice for leading the state with over 40% of respondents picking him as their preferred next CM, though between them Congress leaders Kamal Nath (20.3%) and Jyotiraditya Scindia (19.7%) have an almost equal number backing them.
