Cubs' bizarre error allows Padres runner to jog home in another bad loss

We’re not saying Brad Wieck, formerly on the Padres and now on the Cubs, is a double agent, but the left-hander’s play against his old team Wednesday did build a decent case for that conclusion.

With two outs in the sixth inning of a one-run game, San Diego infielder Ty France broke halfway home as Wieck was coming set. Perhaps a bit surprised, Wieck made an atrocious pitch-throw to the plate, airmailing his catcher.

France jogged home with ease.

The Padres’ dugout was thoroughly amused by the moment.

The Cubs? Not so much.

After their 4-0 loss to the Padres, a once-commanding wild-card lead is now completely gone, with the Brewers moving into a tie for the second position.
