Fans were in for a special treat during Garth Brooks‘ concert at Albertsons Stadium at Boise State University in Idaho Friday night (July 20). After opening the show, Blake Shelton joined Brooks on stage to give the first live performance of their new duet “Dive Bar.”
The song was released in mid-June and will be featured on Brooks’ upcoming album, Fun.
The next day, Brooks posted a photo of himself joyously hugging Shelton at the concert.
“Two okies in a 40,000 seat #DiveBar!!! Boise, you and @BlakeShelton are THE BEST!” Brooks captioned the picture.
During a press conference before the show, Brooks said his “Dive Bar” performance with Shelton was being filmed for a music video for the song, according to KTVB in Boise.
In June, Brooks told Billboard he was struck by Shelton’s performance of “God’s Country” during the Academy of Country Music Awards in April. After that, he decided to reach out to the singer directly about a possible collaboration.
“I thought, ‘I’m feeling something here that’s drawing me right into this television,'” Brooks said. “So I just reached out for him. He was so sweet on the phone. The last thing I said was, ‘Hey, man, I don’t want to put you on the spot, but we got a song that might be a pretty cool duet.’”
