Police have shot a man and arrested two people in Melbourne after a police van was rammed this morning.

The incident occurred in Greenvale, in the city’s north at 4.50am.

The man was taken to hospital in a “serious condition”.

Images from the seen show tyre tracks careering off the road in a semi rural areas of the city, north east of the main Tullamarine Airport.

Ambulance Victoria said a man was treated by paramedics following a shooting.

“A man aged in his 20s was taken to hospital in a serious condition with an injury to the upper body.”

Victoria Police said a crime scene had been set up and an investigation was underway.

The exact circumstances surrounding what has occurred in the vicinity of Providence Road is still being established, however one of the men arrested it is believed has been shot by police,” Victoria Police said in a statement.

No police have been seriously injured, Police added.
