Police are investigating after a man’s body was found on a Gold Coast beach early this morning.

An anonymous caller reported finding the body about 5am, telling police where to find the dead man.

The man, believed to be in his mid-30s and yet to be identified by police, was found on a popular stretch of Surfers Paradise beach, near the Northcliffe Surf Club.

A woman walking her dog near the crime scene said the man still had his shoes on.

Police are attempting to identify the body and cause of death.

Gold Coast Police Acting Detective Superintendent Brendan Smith told the Courier-Mail the man’s death was being treated as suspicious.

“Some of his clothing is missing. Things like that make it look suspicious,” he told the publication.

“We don’t know if he’s been in the water, but he’s certainly been covered by water. It’s unlikely he’s been swimming intentionally, but that’s yet to be determined.

“If anyone knows anyone who’s been for a walk this morning or overnight and hasn’t returned, we’d be keen to hear from them.”
