Nothing comforts quite like a holiday rom-com. Inspired by the Wham! song of the same name, the first trailer for Last Christmas was released yesterday. Starring Emilia Clarke and Henry Golding, the movie’s first glimpse is full of holiday cheer.
Set in London, Clarke plays Kate, who isn’t exactly feeling the Christmas spirit. She works as a store elf, has an antagonistic relationship with her mother (Emma Thompson), and is left reeling after a near-death experience. Golding’s Tom is naturally her opposite, an optimistic who spends his holidays volunteering at a homeless shelter. Cue the love story against a backdrop of Christmas lights.
While the meet-cute may seem familiar (we’ve all indulged in a Hallmark Christmas movie), the project promises some hidden gifts. Co-written by Thompson and helmed by Bridesmaids director Paul Feig, it even features a mini Crazy Rich Asians reunion. Michelle Yeoh, who played the mother of Golding’s character in the summer hit, will appear as Kate’s boss in Last Christmas.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Feig also shared that the late George Michael’s music would be included in the movie. “The great sadness is that he’s not here to be a part of this,” told EW. “But he knew it was going to happen, and that gives me such joy. We feel like he’s here with us.”
Both Golding and Feig shared the movie’s poster on Instagram:
Last Christmas will hit theaters on November 8.
